Inspiring Engagement - Realising Potential

We currently have 10 classes within the Kowhai Syndicate at CASS, which largely operate at satellite classes located in nearby mainstream host schools.

There are three classes at May Rd School (alongside our Manulele mo le lumana’i Samoan Bilingual classes), three classes at Dominion Rd School, two classes at Oranga Primary and two classes at our new Base School on Sandringham Rd..

Satellite classes provide our students with regular opportunities to integrate with their mainstream peers, both academically and socially.  These experiences enrich your child’s learning, communication and social development.

Learning

We are guided by the New Zealand Curriculum, which forms the basis for our learning programmes, alongside specific evidence-based programmes such as Attention Autism, TEACCH and Engage Me.  Teachers provide students with rich and meaningful learning experiences across all curriculum areas through our topic based inquiry framework. The framework allows students to focus on a different topic each term, keeping learning fresh and engaging. There are also daily learning opportunities focused specifically on developing and extending reading, writing, maths and communication.

Our classes also make time for learning opportunities outside the classroom either during break times, when they learn play and communication skills, or out in the community on trips.
